The Social Mind

No, this is not a rant against my job. I actually like what I do. It has its ups and downs, but so does everything else in life.
What is all about is the infograph below. Apparently (nothing new here actually) sitting 9 hours a day in the office on a chair will subtract years from your life...well, we die anyway. Might as well die happy. Or healthy? Or neither? :))
Anyways, here's the infograph.

In case you still had doubts. This video will help cement that social media is amazing.
It's been a long time since I've posted anything than an infograph or video. So that makes me pretty nervous. :) Not.
I went through this presentation made by @radian6 and loved it so I decided it needs to be shared with more people. It's filled with good advice for both social media n00bs as well as more seasoned vets. Worth taking a look!
I'm not gonna bother in writing a huge intro to this because the infograph speaks for itself.
The main stories covered by social media last year. The good, the bad, the unnecessary
We all know how important social media is, right? But what happens with social media in a country like China, that still has a lot of problems in trusting its citizen and vice-versa? Could be that they ban social media platforms all together? No, knowing they could never get away with actually banning social media platforms, they found another way.
How could these startups work in the first place? Aren't social media platforms all about being vocal? Especially with the stuff we don't like. Just like at the #sm backlash some companies and governments received after making the wrong foray into this brave new world. Is China any different? Yes, because the companies are working with the government to make sure nothing bad is posted about them, or as they might say, we are trying to protect the people from making obvious mistakes. We call it the Great Firewall, they call it the Golden Shield. No matter what you call it, it's still censorship.
Anyways, here's a nice infograph that shows us all the Facebook, Twitter and YouTube clones found in China right now as well as some of the main reasons that stand behind the success of these platform - not very different from the originals actually.

Yesterday I had the pleasure to attend a great seminar focused on Internal Communication (but not only).
It was an interesting meeting with people from various areas of communication and social media, ranging from dedicated communicators and specialized consultants to intranet managers and SharePoint trainers. All in all it was a great experience and I had a lot to learn from it.
Below you can see the event's Storify feed. Hope you enjoy it.
Below you can see an interesting infograph that gives some insights to companies and businesses on how to use videos to attract users to their social networks' profiles. Apparently funny videos make people like a brand more and using celebrities will not fare well with most. (obviously). Women like watching videos and the younger demographic is on the rise. Hope you enjoy it!
