Dino-Chicken? Why not!

This made me laugh so hard! Then again, it might prove to work, so my laughter could be premature :D

All I can say is, the people over @LiveScience thought about something doable with today's scientific knowledge. And the answer is the Dino-chicken! In post-modern science, chicken eats you!

Oh, you know what would be really cool? If they would use an ostrige or an emu, this way the chances of mayhem ensuig are highly increased. ;)

Look closely and you'll find an easter egg in the picture.

Can science turn back the clock on evolution to make a chicken into a dinosaur? Find out in this incredible LiveScience infographic.

What Exactly Does the Higgs Boson?

Now that's the trillion dollar question! Or more. Maybe we can't even quantify it in money.

The Higgs boson, ever since its discovery by Peter Higgs, has haunted the physics world and not only, because the implications of its discovery vye from the world of physics and reach into the domain of spirituality (a favourite subject of mine). If proven to exist, the Higgs boson will confirm the big bang theory (not the famed TV series, the real thing) and therefore disprove the existence of a creator. Hence, its nickname, "the god particle". This scares the hell out of all believers. Probably others too.

Below you can find an infograph that explains in layman terms what is the Higgs boson and what does it do. Very interesting stuff, I must say. And funny. :)

Physicists have searched for it for years, but what is the Higgs boson supposed to do, exactly? A LiveScience infographic explains.

The Evolution of Star Trek

What can I say about Star Trek that hasn’t already been said? It helped shape me into what I am today. Not just ST but it played a major role overall. Even to this day I enjoy all of the series and movies and that will never change. I’m a trekker rather than a starwarser (is that a word?) I dunno how to call SW fanboys.

Well, whatever I am, here’s an infograph celebrating 45 years of Star Trek awesomeness!

The entire history of Star Trek is in this SPACE.com timeline infographic.

How Language Transformed Humanity

Biologist Mark Pagel shares an intriguing theory about why humans evolved our complex system of language. He suggests that language is a piece of “social technology” that allowed early human tribes to access a powerful new tool: cooperation. (Recorded at TEDGlobal 2011, July 2011)

Here's my impression: Mark has a knack for showings us the importance that language had on our development, both as a species and from a societal  point of view.

Catching cancer with carbon nanotubes: New device to test blood can spot cancer cells, HIV on the fly

ScienceDaily (Mar. 30, 2011) — A Harvard bioengineer and an MIT aeronautical engineer have created a new device that can detect single cancer cells in a blood sample, potentially allowing doctors to quickly determine whether cancer has spread from its original site. Regenerative medicine advance: New 'cocktails' support long-term maintenance of human embryonic stem cells

ScienceDaily (2011-01-25)

-- A team of stem cell biologists and engineers, using a feedback system control scheme, has innovatively and efficiently identified an optimal combination and concentration of small molecule inhibitors from a very large pool of possibilities to support the long-term maintenance of human embryonic stem cells. This is a major advancement towards the quest to broadly transition regenerative medicine from the bench top to the clinic.
